व्यास उवाच ॥ विधितात महाबुद्धे मुने जीव चिरं समाः ॥ कथितं सुमहच्चित्रं चरितं चन्द्रमौलिनः ॥१॥
Vyāsa said: O dear son of Brahmā, O sage of great intellect, live long for many years. You have narrated the great story of the mooncrested lord.

शिवदूते गते तत्र शङ्खचूडश्च दानवः ॥ किं चकार प्रतापी स तत्त्वं वद सुविस्तरम् ॥ २ ॥
When Śiva’s emissary had departed, what did the valorous Dānava, Śaṅkhacūḍa do? Please mention that in detail.

सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ अथ दूते गते तत्र शंखचूडः प्रतापवान् ॥ उवाच तुलसीं वार्तां गत्वाभ्यंतरमेव ताम् ॥ ३ ॥
Sanatkumāra said: When the messenger returned, the valorous Śaṅkhacūḍa went in and told his wife Tulasī all the details.

शङ्खचूड उवाच ॥ शम्भुदूतमुखाद्देवि युद्धायाहं समुद्यतः ॥ तेन गच्छाम्यहं योद्धुं शासनं कुरु मे ध्रुवम् ॥ ४ ॥
O dear lady, infuriated by the words of Śiva’s messenger I have prepared for a war. Hence I am going to fight. You carry out my directions.

इत्येवमुक्त्वा स ज्ञानी नानाबोधनतः प्रियाम्॥ क्रीडां चकार हर्षेण तमनादृत्य शंकरम् ॥ ५ ॥
Sanatkumāra said: After saying this and slighting Śiva, that demon professing to be wise advised his wife in various ways and sported with her with delight.
