अतस्सा बर्बरीत्याख्यामवापातीव गर्हिताम् ।। धात्रीतुलस्यौ तद्रागात्तस्य प्रीतिप्रदे सदा ।।५१।।

Hence the plant came to be called Varvarī(a kind of wild basil) and was despised by all. The Dhātrī and the Tulasī are always pleasing to him due to their love and affection.

ततो विस्मृतदुःखोऽसौ विष्णुस्ताभ्यां सहैव तु ।। वैकुंठमगमत्तुष्टस्सर्वदेवैर्नमस्कृतः ।। ५२।।

Then Viṣṇu forgot his sorrow. Accompanied by them he went to Vaikuṇṭha fully satisfied. He was bowed to by all the gods.

tato vismRtaduHkho'sau viSNustAbhyAM sahaiva tu || vaikuMThamagamattuSTassarvadevairnamaskRtaH || 52||

कार्तिके मासि विप्रेन्द्र धात्री च तुलसी सदा ।। सर्वदेवप्रियाज्ञेया विष्णोश्चैव विशेषतः ।।५३।।

O great brahmin, myrobolan and the holy basil shall be understood as the favourites of gods in the month of Kārttika, especially of Viṣṇu.

english translation

kArtike mAsi viprendra dhAtrI ca tulasI sadA || sarvadevapriyAjJeyA viSNozcaiva vizeSataH ||53||

तत्रापि तुलसी धन्यातीव श्रेष्ठा महामुने ।। त्यक्त्वा गणेशं सर्वेषां प्रीतिदा सर्वकामदा ।।५४।।

There too, O great sage, the holy basil is the most blessed and the most excellent. Except Gaṇeśa it delights every deity and bestows all desires.

tatrApi tulasI dhanyAtIva zreSThA mahAmune || tyaktvA gaNezaM sarveSAM prItidA sarvakAmadA ||54||

वैकुण्ठस्थं हरिं दृष्ट्वा ब्रह्मेन्द्राद्याश्च तेऽमराः।। नत्वा स्तुत्वा महाविष्णुं स्वस्वधामानि वै ययुः ।।५५।।

On seeing Viṣṇu settled again in Vaikuṇṭha, Brahmā, Indra and other gods bowed to and eulogised him and then left for their respective abodes.

vaikuNThasthaM hariM dRSTvA brahmendrAdyAzca te'marAH|| natvA stutvA mahAviSNuM svasvadhAmAni vai yayuH ||55||
