परन्तु ते महादैत्या मद्भक्ता दृढमानसाः ॥ अथ वध्या मयैव स्युर्व्याजत्यक्तवृषोत्तमाः ॥३६॥
But the great Asuras are my firm devotees. They shall be killed only by me, for they have been forced to abandon their excellent virtue under false persuasion.
english translation
विष्णुर्हन्यात्परो वाथ यत्त्याजितवृषाः कृताः ॥ दैत्या मद्भक्तिरहितास्सर्वे त्रिपुरवासिनः ॥ ३७ ॥
Let Viṣṇu or any one else slay them now that they have been made to abandon their Dharma. The Asuras of the three cities have become devoid of devotion to me.
english translation
इति शंभोस्तु वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वे दिवौकसः ॥ विमनस्का बभूवुस्ते हरिश्चापि मुनीश्वर ॥ ३८ ॥
O great sage, on hearing these words of Śiva, all the heaven-dwellers and Viṣṇu became dispirited.
english translation
देवान् विष्णुमुदासीनान् दृष्ट्वा च भवकृद्विधिः ॥ कृतांजलिपुरश्शंभुं ब्रह्मा वचनमब्रवीत् ॥ ३९ ॥
On seeing the gods and Viṣṇu sitting cheerless, Brahmā, the creator of the worlds spoke to Śiva with palms joined in reverence.
english translation
ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ न किंचिद्विद्यते पापं यस्मात्त्वं योगवित्तमः ॥ परमेशः परब्रह्म सदा देवर्षिरक्षकः ॥ 2-5-6-४० ॥
Brahmā said: There is no sin in this, since you are the foremost among those who know the Yogic theory; you are the great lord, the great Brahman and the saviour of gods and sages always.
