ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ देवदेव गुह स्वामिञ्शांकरे पार्वतीसुत ॥ न शोभते रणो विष्णु तारकासुरयोर्वृथा ॥१॥
Brahmā said: O Guha, O lord of gods, O son of Śiva and Pārvatī, the fight between Viṣṇu and Tāraka is not proper. It is futile.
english translation
विष्णुना न हि वध्योऽसौ तारको बलवानति ॥ मया दत्तवरस्तस्मात्सत्यं सत्यं वदाम्यहम् ॥ २ ॥
Tāraka the powerful cannot be killed by Viṣṇu. He has been granted such a boon by me. It is truth. I am telling you the truth.
english translation
नान्यो हंतास्य पापस्य त्वां विना पार्वतीसुत ॥ तस्मात्त्वया हि कर्तव्यं वचनं मे महाप्रभो ॥३॥
O son of Pārvatī, none except you can be the slayer of this sinner. O great lord, my words shall be carried out by you.
english translation
सन्नद्धो भव दैत्यस्य वधायाशु परंतप ॥ तद्वधार्थं समुत्पन्नः शंकरात्त्वं शिवासुत ॥४॥
O scorcher of enemies, please get ready to slay him. O son of Pārvatī you are born of Śiva for killing that demon.
english translation
रक्ष रक्ष महावीर त्रिदशान्व्यथितान्रणे ॥ न बालस्त्वं युवा नैव किं तु सर्वेश्वरः प्रभुः ॥ ५ ॥
O great hero, save the gods distressed in the battle. You are neither a boy nor a youth but the lord of all.
