स्मृत्वा शिवपदांभोजं जग्राह त्रिशिखं परम् ॥ जज्वलुस्तेजसा तस्य दिशः सर्वा नभस्तथा ॥ ३६ ॥
In order to kill him he took up his trident after remembering the lotuslike feet of Śiva. His brilliance then brightly illuminated all the quarters and the sky.
english translation
smRtvA zivapadAMbhojaM jagrAha trizikhaM param ॥ jajvalustejasA tasya dizaH sarvA nabhastathA ॥ 36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतस्मिन्नन्तरे स्वामी वारयामास तं रणम् ॥ वीरबाहुमुखान्सद्यो महाकौतुकदर्शकः ॥ ३७ ॥
In the meantime, the master stopped the war. He prevented Vīrabāhu and others immediately in order to show his own might.

etasminnantare svAmI vArayAmAsa taM raNam ॥ vIrabAhumukhAnsadyo mahAkautukadarzakaH ॥ 37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदाज्ञया वीरभद्रो निवृत्तोऽभूद्रणात्तदा ॥ कोपं चक्रे महावीरस्तारकोऽसुरनायकः ॥ ३८ ॥
At his bidding Vīrabhadra returned from the battle. The heroic leader of the Asuras, Tāraka, was still in his unabated fury.

tadAjJayA vIrabhadro nivRtto'bhUdraNAttadA ॥ kopaM cakre mahAvIrastArako'suranAyakaH ॥ 38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचकार बाणवृष्टिं च सुरोपरि तदाऽसुरः ॥ तप्तोऽह्वासीत्सुरान्सद्यो नानास्त्ररणकोविदः ॥ ३९ ॥
Then the Asura showered arrows on the gods and put them to distress. He was skilful in the use of various missiles in the war.

cakAra bANavRSTiM ca suropari tadA'suraH ॥ tapto'hvAsItsurAnsadyo nAnAstraraNakovidaH ॥ 39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं कृत्वा महत्कर्म तारकोऽसुरपालकः ॥ सर्वेषामपि देवानामशक्यो बलिनां वरः ॥2-4-8-४०॥
After causing a great havoc, Tāraka, the protector of Asuras, the most excellent among the brave, seemed invincible to the gods.
