ईशानेन समं शंभुर्युयुधे रणवित्तमः ॥ शुंभश्शेषेण युयुधे कुंभश्चन्द्रेण दानवः ॥ ३६ ॥
Śambhu fought with Īśāna. Śumbha an expert in battle fought with Śeṣa. Kumbha the Asura fought with the Moon.

IzAnena samaM zaMbhuryuyudhe raNavittamaH ॥ zuMbhazzeSeNa yuyudhe kuMbhazcandreNa dAnavaH ॥ 36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकुंबरो मिहिरेणाजौ महाबल पराक्रमः ॥ युयुधे परमास्त्रैश्च नानायुद्धविशारदः ॥३७॥
Kuñjara of great strength and exploit, an expert in different kinds of battles, fought with Mihira, using great weapons.

kuMbaro mihireNAjau mahAbala parAkramaH ॥ yuyudhe paramAstraizca nAnAyuddhavizAradaH ॥37॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं द्वन्द्वेन युद्धेन महता च सुरासुराः ॥ संगरे युयुधुस्सर्वे बलेन कृतनिश्च याः ॥३८॥
Thus the gods and the Asuras, fought duels using their full strength with resolution.

evaM dvandvena yuddhena mahatA ca surAsurAH ॥ saMgare yuyudhussarve balena kRtanizca yAH ॥38॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअन्योन्यं स्पर्द्धमानास्तेऽमरा दैत्या महाबलाः ॥ तस्मिन्देवासुरे युद्धे दुर्जया अभवन्मुने ॥ ३९ ॥
O sage, desiring to gain the upper hand and vying with each other, the powerful gods and the Asuras were equally invincible in the battle.

anyonyaM sparddhamAnAste'marA daityA mahAbalAH ॥ tasmindevAsure yuddhe durjayA abhavanmune ॥ 39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदा च तेषां सुरदानवानां बभूव युद्धं तुमुलं जयैषिणाम् ॥ सुखावहं वीरमनस्विनां वै भयावहं चैव तथेतरेषाम् ॥ 2-4-7-४० ॥
The fight between the gods and the Asuras desirous of victory over each other was very tumultuous. It was pleasing to the brave and terrible to the others.

tadA ca teSAM suradAnavAnAM babhUva yuddhaM tumulaM jayaiSiNAm ॥ sukhAvahaM vIramanasvinAM vai bhayAvahaM caiva tathetareSAm ॥ 2-4-7-40 ॥
