तत्र गत्वा हरिर्देवैर्मया च सुरवल्लभः ॥ ययौ शिववरस्थानं शंकरं द्रष्टुकाम्यया ॥ ५१ ॥

After going there in the company of the gods and me, the favourite deity of the gods went to the excellent resort of Śiva with a desire to see Śiva.

english translation

tatra gatvA harirdevairmayA ca suravallabhaH ॥ yayau zivavarasthAnaM zaMkaraM draSTukAmyayA ॥ 51 ॥

तत्र दृष्ट्वा शिवं विष्णुर्नसुरैर्विस्मितोऽभवत् ॥ तत्र स्थिताञ् शिवगणान् पप्रच्छ विनयान्वितः ॥ ५२ ॥

Unable to see Him there, Viṣṇu and the gods became surprised. With humility he asked the Gaṇas of Śiva who were there.

tatra dRSTvA zivaM viSNurnasurairvismito'bhavat ॥ tatra sthitAJ zivagaNAn papraccha vinayAnvitaH ॥ 52 ॥

विष्णुरुवाच ॥ हे शंकराः शिवः कुत्र गतस्सर्वप्रभुर्गणाः ॥ निवेदयत नः प्रीत्या दुःखितान्वै कृपालवः ॥ ५३ ॥

Viṣṇu said: O Gaṇas of Śiva, where has Śiva, the lord of all gone? Sympathetically intimate this to us who are depressed.

viSNuruvAca ॥ he zaMkarAH zivaH kutra gatassarvaprabhurgaNAH ॥ nivedayata naH prItyA duHkhitAnvai kRpAlavaH ॥ 53 ॥

ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तस्य सामरस्य हरेर्गुणाः ॥ प्रोचुः प्रीत्या गणास्ते हि शंकरस्य रमापतिम् ॥ ५४ ॥

Brahmā said: On hearing these words of Viṣṇu in the company of the gods, the Gaṇas of Śiva lovingly replied to Viṣṇu.

brahmovAca ॥ ityAkarNya vacastasya sAmarasya harerguNAH ॥ procuH prItyA gaNAste hi zaMkarasya ramApatim ॥ 54 ॥

शिवगणा ऊचुः ॥ हरे शृणु शिवप्रीत्या यथार्थं ब्रूमहे वयम् ॥ ब्रह्मणा निर्जरैस्सार्द्धं वृत्तान्तमखिलं च यत् ॥५५॥

The Gaṇas of Śiva said: O Viṣṇu, please listen along with Brahmā and the gods, we shall tell you the truth and the details out of love for Śiva.

zivagaNA UcuH ॥ hare zRNu zivaprItyA yathArthaM brUmahe vayam ॥ brahmaNA nirjaraissArddhaM vRttAntamakhilaM ca yat ॥55॥
