ज्येष्ठपुत्रश्च यस्तस्यास्तेनोक्तं कथ्यतान्त्वया ॥ करिष्यामि तदेतद्धि तया च कथितन्तदा ॥ २६ ॥
The elder son replied—“Please do mention. I shall do the same.” She then replied.
english translation
द्विजपत्न्युवाच ॥ शृणु पुत्र वचः प्रीत्या पुरासीन्मे मनः स्पृहा ॥ काश्यां गंतुं तथा नासीदिदानीं म्रियते पुनः ॥ २७॥
The brahmin lady said:— O son, hear with attention. I had a great desire to go to Kāśī. That was not to be. Now I am dying here.
english translation
ममास्थीनि त्वया पुत्र क्षेपणीयान्यतन्द्रितम् ॥ गंगाजले शुभं तेद्य भविष्यति न संशयः ॥ २८ ॥
Dear son, my bones shall be cast off into the waters of the Gaṅgā assiduously. That pious act will bless you, to be sure.
english translation
॥ सूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्ते च तया मात्रा स ज्येष्ठतनयोब्रवीत् ॥ मातरं मातृभक्तिस्तु सुव्रतां मरणोन्मुखीम् ॥ २९ ॥
Sūta said:— When she of good rites and on the verge of death, said thus, the affectionate elder son replied to her.
english translation
॥ पुत्र उवाच ॥ मातस्त्वया सुखेनैव प्राणास्त्याज्या न संशयः ॥ तव कार्यं पुरा कृत्वा पश्चात्कार्यं मदीयकम् ॥ ३०॥
The son said:— “O mother, you shall die peacefully and with confidence. I shall carry out your task first and then attend to mine.”
