प्रथमं तु मया तत्र प्रतिज्ञा च कृता प्रभो ॥ तस्मान्मया च गन्तव्यं भवद्भ्यां स्थीयतामिह ॥ ७१ ॥
First of all I made a promise there, my lord. Therefore I must go and you two stay here.
english translation
prathamaM tu mayA tatra pratijJA ca kRtA prabho ॥ tasmAnmayA ca gantavyaM bhavadbhyAM sthIyatAmiha ॥ 71 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा कनिष्ठा वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ अहं त्वत्सेविका चाद्य गच्छामि स्थीयतां त्वया॥ ७२॥
On hearing those words the junior hind spoke “I am your servant. Hence I go. You shall stay here.”
english translation
iti tadvacanaM zrutvA kaniSThA vAkyamabravIt ॥ ahaM tvatsevikA cAdya gacchAmi sthIyatAM tvayA॥ 72॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतच्छ्रुत्वा च मृगः प्राह गम्यते तत्र वै मया ॥ भवत्यौ तिष्ठतां चात्र मातृतः शिशुरक्षणम्॥ ७३॥
On hearing it, the stag said—“I am going there. Both of you stay here. Infants are guarded and looked after by their mothers.”
english translation
tacchrutvA ca mRgaH prAha gamyate tatra vai mayA ॥ bhavatyau tiSThatAM cAtra mAtRtaH zizurakSaNam॥ 73॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्स्वामिवचनं श्रुत्वा मेनाते तन्न धर्मतः ॥ प्रोचुः प्रीत्या स्वभर्तारं वैधव्ये जीवितं च धिक् ॥ ७४॥
On hearing the words of their husband the two hinds did not consider it righteous. They lovingly told their husband, “Fie upon that life in widowhood.”
english translation
tatsvAmivacanaM zrutvA menAte tanna dharmataH ॥ procuH prItyA svabhartAraM vaidhavye jIvitaM ca dhik ॥ 74॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबालानाश्वास्य तांस्तत्र समर्प्य सहवासिनः ॥ गतास्ते सर्व एवाशु यत्रास्ते व्याधसत्तमः ॥ ७५ ॥
Then all of them consoled their fawns and entrusted them to the care of their neighbours. They went to the place where the hunter was waiting.
english translation
bAlAnAzvAsya tAMstatra samarpya sahavAsinaH ॥ gatAste sarva evAzu yatrAste vyAdhasattamaH ॥ 75 ॥
