पुष्टं मृगं च तं दृष्ट्वा हृष्टो वनचरस्स वै ॥ शरं धनुषि संधाय हन्तुं तं हि प्रचक्रमे ॥ ५१॥

On seeing the stout stag the hunter was delighted. He fixed the arrow to the bow and was about to kill it.

puSTaM mRgaM ca taM dRSTvA hRSTo vanacarassa vai ॥ zaraM dhanuSi saMdhAya hantuM taM hi pracakrame ॥ 51॥

तदैवं कुर्वतस्तस्य बिल्वपत्राणि कानिचित् ॥ तत्प्रारब्धवशाद्विष्णो पतितानि शिवोपरि ॥ ५२ ॥

O dear, while he attempted to do this, a few Bilva leaves fell on Śiva as a result of his Prārabdha.

english translation

tadaivaM kurvatastasya bilvapatrANi kAnicit ॥ tatprArabdhavazAdviSNo patitAni zivopari ॥ 52 ॥

तेन तृतीययामस्य तद्रात्रौ तस्य भाग्यतः ॥ पूजा जाता शिवस्यैव कृपालुत्वं प्रदर्शितम् ॥ ५३॥

In view of this, the worship of the third part of that night became realised due to his good fortune. Śiva’s merciful nature was evident in this.

tena tRtIyayAmasya tadrAtrau tasya bhAgyataH ॥ pUjA jAtA zivasyaiva kRpAlutvaM pradarzitam ॥ 53॥

श्रुत्वा तत्र च तं शब्दं किं करोषीति प्राह सः ॥ कुटुम्बार्थमहं हन्मि त्वां व्याधश्चेति सोब्रवीत् ॥ ५४ ॥

On hearing the noise the stag asked, “what are you doing?” The hunter replied “I am going to kill you for the sake of my family.”

zrutvA tatra ca taM zabdaM kiM karoSIti prAha saH ॥ kuTumbArthamahaM hanmi tvAM vyAdhazceti sobravIt ॥ 54 ॥

तच्छ्रुत्वा व्याधवचनं हरिणो हृष्टमानसः ॥ द्रुतमेव च तं व्याधं वचनं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ ५५ ॥

On hearing this, the stag was delighted in his mind. Immediately he spoke to the hunter.

tacchrutvA vyAdhavacanaM hariNo hRSTamAnasaH ॥ drutameva ca taM vyAdhaM vacanaM cedamabravIt ॥ 55 ॥
