कदा यास्यति कश्चिद्वै कदा हन्यामहं पुनः॥ इति बुद्धिं समास्थाय स्थितोऽसौ क्षुत्तृषान्वितः ॥ १६ ॥
With hunger and thirst oppressing him he waited and thought. “When will some animal come here? When shall I kill it?”

तद्रात्रौ प्रथमे यामे मृगी त्वेका समागता ॥ तृषार्ता चकिता सा च प्रोत्फालं कुर्वती तदा ॥ १७ ॥
During the first part of the night a thirsty hind came there springing and jumping timidly.

तां दृष्ट्वा च तदा तेन तद्वधार्थमथो शरः ॥ संहृष्टेन द्रुतं विष्णो धनुषि स्वे हि संदधे ॥ १८ ॥
On seeing it he was much delighted. He fixed an arrow to his bow immediately in order to kill it.

इत्येवं कुर्वतस्तस्य जलं बिल्वदलानि च ॥ पतितानि ह्यधस्तत्र शिवलिंगमभूत्ततः ॥ १९॥
While he was doing this he offered him water and bilva leaves They fell to the ground and then a Shiva Linga appeared.

यामस्य प्रथमस्यैव पूजा जाता शिवस्य च ॥ तन्महिम्ना हि तस्यैव पातकं गलितन्तदा ॥ २०॥
The first Yama and Lord Shiva were worshipped. By that glory his own sin was then melted away.
