अनसूयोवाच ।। आगम्यतां मया सार्द्धं त्वया नाथ महामुने ।। सरिद्वराया गंगाया द्रष्टुमिच्छा भवेद्यदि ।। ३१ ।।

Anasūyā said:— O lord, O great sage, please come with me if you wish to see Gaṅgā, the foremost among the rivers.

english translation

anasUyovAca || AgamyatAM mayA sArddhaM tvayA nAtha mahAmune || saridvarAyA gaMgAyA draSTumicchA bhavedyadi || 31 ||

सूत उवाच ।। इत्युक्त्वा तु समादाय पतिं तं सा पतिव्रता ।। गता द्रुतं शिवं स्मृत्वा यत्र गंगा सरिद्वरा।। ३२।।

Sūta said:— After saying this and remembering Śiva, the chaste lady took her husband to the place where Gaṅgā, the foremost among the rivers was present.

english translation

sUta uvAca || ityuktvA tu samAdAya patiM taM sA pativratA || gatA drutaM zivaM smRtvA yatra gaMgA saridvarA|| 32||

दर्शयामास तां तत्र गंगां पत्ये पतिव्रता ।। गर्ते च संस्थितां तत्र स्वयं दिव्यस्वरूपिणीम् ।। ३३।।

There the chaste lady showed to her husband Gaṅgā of divine form stationed within the pit.

english translation

darzayAmAsa tAM tatra gaMgAM patye pativratA || garte ca saMsthitAM tatra svayaM divyasvarUpiNIm || 33||

तत्र गत्वा ऋषिश्रेष्ठो गर्तं च जलपूरितम् ।। आकण्ठं सुन्दरं दृष्ट्वा धन्येयमिति चाब्रवीत् ।। ३४।।

Going there and seeing the beautiful pit full to the brim with water, the excellent sage said—“She is blessed.”

english translation

tatra gatvA RSizreSTho gartaM ca jalapUritam || AkaNThaM sundaraM dRSTvA dhanyeyamiti cAbravIt || 34||

किं मदीयं तपश्चैव किमन्येषां पुनस्तदा ।। इत्युक्तो मुनिशार्दूलो भक्त्या तुष्टाव तां तदा ।। ३५।।

“Is this the fruit of my own penance or of somebody else?” After saying this the leading sage eulogised her with devotion.
