सूत उवाच ॥ श्रूयतामृषयः श्रेष्ठाः कथयामि यथा श्रुतम् ॥ विष्णुना प्रार्थितो येन संतुष्टः परमेश्वरः ॥ तदाहं कथयाम्यद्य पुण्यं नाम सहस्रकम् ॥ १ ॥

Sūta said:— May this be heard, O great sages. I shall now recount the hymn of thousand names (see notes) of Śiva, whereby Śiva was satisfied.

english translation

sUta uvAca ॥ zrUyatAmRSayaH zreSThAH kathayAmi yathA zrutam ॥ viSNunA prArthito yena saMtuSTaH paramezvaraH ॥ tadAhaM kathayAmyadya puNyaM nAma sahasrakam ॥ 1 ॥

श्रीविष्णुरुवाच ॥ शिवो हरो मृडो रुद्रः पुष्करः पुष्पलोचनः ॥ अर्थिगम्यः सदाचारः शर्वः शंभुर्महेश्वरः ॥ २ ॥

Sri Vishnu said: ॥ Shiva Hara Mrida Rudra Pushkara Pushpalocana He is accessible to the seekers and virtuous He is Lord Śambhu and Lord Maheshwa.

zrIviSNuruvAca ॥ zivo haro mRDo rudraH puSkaraH puSpalocanaH ॥ arthigamyaH sadAcAraH zarvaH zaMbhurmahezvaraH ॥ 2 ॥

चंद्रापीडश्चंद्रमौलिर्विश्वं विश्वंभरेश्वरः ॥ वेदांतसारसंदोहः कपाली नीललोहितः ॥ ३ ॥

He is the moon-peed and the moon-crowned Lord of the universe and the lord of the universe. The forehead is blue and red in doubt of the essence of Vedanta.

ध्यानाधारोऽपरिच्छेद्यो गौरीभर्त्ता गणेश्वरः ॥ अष्टमूर्तिर्विश्वमूर्तिस्त्रिवर्गस्वर्गसाधनः ॥ ४ ॥

He is the inseparable source of meditation and the husband of Gauri and the lord of the Ganas. He is the eightfold form of the universe and the means of heaven in the three worlds.

ज्ञानगम्यो दृढप्रज्ञो देवदेवस्त्रिलोचनः ॥ वामदेवो महादेवः पटुः परिवृढो दृढः ॥ ५ ॥

He is accessible to knowledge and firm in intelligence He is the god of the gods and has three eyes Vamadeva Mahadeva is skilled, grown and strong.
