एकस्मिन्दिवसे ज्येष्ठा सा सुदेहा च दुःखिनी ।। हृदये संचिचिन्तेति दुःखशांतिः कथं भवेत् ।। ११ ।।

One day the senior wife Sudehā, extremely distressed in her heart, thought how she could subdue her misery.

english translation

ekasmindivase jyeSThA sA sudehA ca duHkhinI || hRdaye saMcicinteti duHkhazAMtiH kathaM bhavet || 11 ||

सुदेहोवाच ।। मदीयो हृदयाग्निश्च घुश्मानेत्रजलेन वै ।। भविष्यति ध्रुवं शांतो नान्यथा दुःखजेन हि ।। १२ ।।

Sudehā said:— Certainly the fire in my heart can be tranquilised only through the tears of Ghuśmā caused by her misery and not otherwise.

sudehovAca || madIyo hRdayAgnizca ghuzmAnetrajalena vai || bhaviSyati dhruvaM zAMto nAnyathA duHkhajena hi || 12 ||

अतोऽहं मारयाम्यद्य तत्पुत्रं प्रियवादिनम् ।। अग्रे भावि भवेदेवं निश्चयः परमो मम ।। १३।।

So I shall kill her son today, the son that speaks pleasing words to her. What is destined to happen shall happen. This is my final decision.

english translation

सूत उवाच ।। कदर्य्याणां विचारश्च कृत्याकृत्ये भवेन्नहि।। कठोरः प्रायशो विप्राः सापत्नो भाव आत्महा ।। १४ ।।

Sūta said:— O brahmins, the inimical nature among co-wives is extremely ruthless and suicidal. The wicked and the mean do not ponder what shall be done or not done.

एकस्मिन्दिवसे ज्येष्ठा सुप्तं पुत्रं वधूयुतम् ।। चिच्छिदे निशि चांगेषु गृहीत्वा छुरिकां च सा ।। १५ ।।

One day during the night as the son was sleeping with his wife she took a big knife and cut off his limbs.
