सूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्तश्शंभुना तेन रावणो राक्षसेश्वरः। तथेति तत्समादाय जगाम भवनं निजम्॥ १६॥
Sūta said:— Thus warned by Śiva, Rāvaṇa, the king of Rākṣasas, took it saying “So be it” and went to his abode.
english translation
आसीन्मूत्रोत्सर्गकामो मार्गे हि शिवमायया॥ तत्स्तंभितुं न शक्तोभूत्पौलस्त्यो रावणः प्रभुः॥ १७॥
Thanks to Śiva’s Māyā, he became desirous of passing urine while yet on his way. Lord Rāvaṇa of the family of Pulastya could not stop this urge.
english translation
दृष्ट्वैकं तत्र वै गोपं प्रार्थ्य लिंगं ददौ च तत्॥ मुहूर्तके ह्यतिक्रांते गोपोभूद्विकलस्तदा॥ १८॥
He saw a cowherd there and requested him to hold the image. About an hour elapsed, when Rāvaṇa did not return, the cowherd became nervous.
english translation
भूमौ संस्थापयामास तद्भारेणातिपीडितः ॥ तत्रैव तत्स्थितं लिंगं वजसारसमुद्भवम् ॥ सर्वकामप्रदं चैव दर्शनात्पापहारकम् ॥ १९॥
Extremely distressed by the weight of it he placed it on the ground There stood that lingam born of Vajasara It bestows all desires and destroys sins by seeing it.
english translation
वैद्यनाथेश्वरं नाम्ना तल्लिंगमभवन्मुने ॥ प्रसिद्धं त्रिषु लोकेषु भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं सताम्॥ २०॥
O sage that lingam became known as Vaidyanatheshwara It is well known in the three worlds and bestows enjoyment and liberation on the virtuous.
