गौतम उवाच ॥ अनुकंप्यो भवद्भिश्च कथ्यतां क्रियते मया॥ यथा मदीयं पापं च गच्छत्विति निवेद्यताम् ॥ ४६॥
Gautama said:— I am to be pitied by you. Please tell me how my sin can be wiped off. I shall do as you bid me.
english translation
gautama uvAca ॥ anukaMpyo bhavadbhizca kathyatAM kriyate mayA॥ yathA madIyaM pApaM ca gacchatviti nivedyatAm ॥ 46॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्तास्ते तदा विप्रा नोचुश्चैव परस्परम् ॥ अत्यंतं सेवया पृष्टा मिलिता ह्येकतस्स्थिताः ॥ ४७॥
Sūta said:— Thus requested the brahmins did not say anything. When they were implored humbly they met separately and remained aloof.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥ ityuktAste tadA viprA nocuzcaiva parasparam ॥ atyaMtaM sevayA pRSTA militA hyekatassthitAH ॥ 47॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगौतमो दूरतः स्थित्वा नत्वा तानृषिसत्तमान्॥ पप्रच्छ विनयाविष्टः किं कार्यं हि मयाधुना ॥ ४८॥
Gautama stood far off. Bowing down to the sages he humbly asked them what he should do.
english translation
gautamo dUrataH sthitvA natvA tAnRSisattamAn॥ papraccha vinayAviSTaH kiM kAryaM hi mayAdhunA ॥ 48॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्युक्ते मुनिना तेन गौतमेन महात्मना ॥ मिलितास्सकलास्ते वै मुनयो वाक्यमब्रुवन् ॥ ४९ ॥
When this was said by Gautama of noble soul, the sages spoke these words.
english translation
ityukte muninA tena gautamena mahAtmanA ॥ militAssakalAste vai munayo vAkyamabruvan ॥ 49 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऋषय ऊचुः ॥ निष्कृतिं हि विना शुद्धिर्जायते न कदाचन ॥ तस्मात्त्वं देहशुद्ध्यर्थं प्रायश्चित्तं समाचर ॥ ५० ॥
The sages said:— “Without expiation purity cannot be attained. Hence, for the sake of purification you shall perform the rites of atonement.
english translation
RSaya UcuH ॥ niSkRtiM hi vinA zuddhirjAyate na kadAcana ॥ tasmAttvaM dehazuddhyarthaM prAyazcittaM samAcara ॥ 50 ॥
