ऋषय ऊचुः ॥ त्वया सूत महाभाग श्राविता ह्यद्भुता कथा ॥ महाकालाख्यलिंगस्य निजभक्तसुरक्षिकः॥ १॥
The sage said:— O Sūta, O fortunate Sūta, a wonderful story has been narrated of Mahākāla, the phallic image of Śiva that protects his devotees.
english translation
ज्योतिर्लिंगं चतुर्थं च कृपया वद वित्तम॥ ॐकारं परमेशस्य सर्वपातकहारिणः॥ २॥
O foremost of the wise, please describe the fourth Jyotirliṅga of the great lord, the destroyer of all sins, in Oṃkāra.
english translation
सूत उवाच॥ ॐकारे परमेशाख्यं लिंगमासीद्यथा द्विजाः॥ तथा वक्ष्यामि वः प्रीत्या श्रूयतां परमर्षयः॥ ३॥
Sūta said:— O brahmins, O great sages, I shall describe to you with pleasure how the phallic image of lord Śiva named Parameśa manifested from Oṃkāra. Let it be heard.

कस्मिंश्चित्समये चाञ नारदो भगवान्मुनिः॥ गोकर्णाख्यं शिवं गत्वा सिषेवे परभक्तिमान्॥ ४॥
Once, the holy sage Nārada served with great devotion the phallic form of Śiva named Gokarṇa after going there.
english translation
ततस्स आगतो विन्ध्यं नगेशं मुनिसत्तमः॥ तत्रैव पूजितस्तेन बहुमानपुरस्सरम्॥ ५॥
From there the excellent sage came to Vindhya, the lord of mountains. He was duly worshipped by the mountain with great honour.
