।। सूत उवाच ।। अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि मल्लिकार्जुनसंभवम् ।। यः श्रुत्वा भक्तिमान्धीमान्सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ।। १ ।।

Sūta said:— Hereafter I shall explain the origin of Mallikārjuna on hearing which the devotee becomes intelligent and rid of all sins.

पूर्वं चा कथितं यच्च तत्पुनः कथयाम्यहम् ।। कुमारचरितं दिव्यं सर्वपापविनाशनम् ।। २।।

The story of Kumāra has already been mentioned by me. I shall explain it again. It is divine and destructive of all sins.

english translation

pUrvaM cA kathitaM yacca tatpunaH kathayAmyaham || kumAracaritaM divyaM sarvapApavinAzanam || 2||

यदा पृथ्वीं समाक्रम्य कैलासं पुनरागतः ।। कुमारस्स शिवापुत्रस्तारकारिर्महाबलः ।। ३ ।।

When he conquered the earth and returned to Kailas The young man was the son of Shiva and was a mighty savior.

english translation

yadA pRthvIM samAkramya kailAsaM punarAgataH || kumArassa zivAputrastArakArirmahAbalaH || 3 ||

तदा सुरर्षिरागत्य सर्वं वृत्तं जगाद ह ।। गणेश्वरविवाहादि भ्रामयंस्तं स्वबुद्धितः ।। ४ ।।

Then the sage of the gods came and told him everything that had happened He was confused by his own intelligence about the marriage of the lord of the Ganes.

tadA surarSirAgatya sarvaM vRttaM jagAda ha || gaNezvaravivAhAdi bhrAmayaMstaM svabuddhitaH || 4 ||

तच्छुत्वा स कुमारो हि प्रणम्य पितरौ च तौ ।। जगाम पर्वतं क्रौचं पितृभ्यां वारितोऽपि हि ।। ५ ।।

On hearing it, Kumāra bowed to his parents and went to the mountain Krauñca though forbidden by his parents.

tacchutvA sa kumAro hi praNamya pitarau ca tau || jagAma parvataM kraucaM pitRbhyAM vArito'pi hi || 5 ||
