अन्यथायं ध्वजो मे हि रात्रावपि स्थिरो भवेत्।। इत्युक्त्वान्तर्हितश्शंभू राज्ञे तुष्टः कृपानिधिः।। ६६।।

Otherwise my flag would be steady even at night Having said this Lord Śambhu the treasure of mercy pleased with the king disappeared.

english translation

anyathAyaM dhvajo me hi rAtrAvapi sthiro bhavet|| ityuktvAntarhitazzaMbhU rAjJe tuSTaH kRpAnidhiH|| 66||

तथेति नियमश्चासीत्तस्य राज्ञो महामुने।। प्राजापत्यं कृतं नित्यं शिवपूजाविधानत ।। ६७ ।।

O great sage, the king adopted the procedure accordingly. The Prājāpatya rite was performed every day in accordance with the rules of Śiva-worship.

tatheti niyamazcAsIttasya rAjJo mahAmune|| prAjApatyaM kRtaM nityaM zivapUjAvidhAnata || 67 ||

स्वयं प्रातर्विवर्दे्धेत ध्वजः सायं पतेदिति।। यदि कार्यं च सम्पूर्णं जातं चैव भवेदिह ।। ६८।।

If the rites became full and complete, the banner rose up itself in the morning and fell down during the night.

svayaM prAtarvivardedheta dhvajaH sAyaM patediti|| yadi kAryaM ca sampUrNaM jAtaM caiva bhavediha || 68||

एकस्मिन्समये चात्र बटोः कार्यं पुरा ह्यभूत् ।। ध्वजः स पतितो वै हि ब्रह्मभोजं विनापि हि ।। ६९।।

On one occasion the function of the Vaṭu took place in the beginning. The banner then fell even before the feast.

ekasminsamaye cAtra baToH kAryaM purA hyabhUt || dhvajaH sa patito vai hi brahmabhojaM vinApi hi || 69||

दृष्ट्वा तच्च तदा तत्र पृष्टा राज्ञा च पण्डिताः ।। भुञ्जते ब्राह्मणा ह्यत्र नोत्थितो वै ध्वजस्त्विति।। ७०।।

On seeing it there, the learned men were asked by the king. The brahmins are at their feast. Why is the banner not flying?

dRSTvA tacca tadA tatra pRSTA rAjJA ca paNDitAH || bhuJjate brAhmaNA hyatra notthito vai dhvajastviti|| 70||
