प्रत्य॒ग्निरु॒षस॒श्चेकि॑ता॒नोऽबो॑धि॒ विप्र॑: पद॒वीः क॑वी॒नाम् । पृ॒थु॒पाजा॑ देव॒यद्भि॒: समि॒द्धोऽप॒ द्वारा॒ तम॑सो॒ वह्नि॑रावः ॥ प्रत्यग्निरुषसश्चेकितानोऽबोधि विप्रः पदवीः कवीनाम् । पृथुपाजा देवयद्भिः समिद्धोऽप द्वारा तमसो वह्निरावः ॥
The sagacious Agni, cognizant of the dawn, is awakened to (follow) the paths of the sages; the luminous Vahni, kindled by the devout, has thrown open the gates of darkness.
english translation
प्रेद्व॒ग्निर्वा॑वृधे॒ स्तोमे॑भिर्गी॒र्भिः स्तो॑तॄ॒णां न॑म॒स्य॑ उ॒क्थैः । पू॒र्वीॠ॒तस्य॑ सं॒दृश॑श्चका॒नः सं दू॒तो अ॑द्यौदु॒षसो॑ विरो॒के ॥ प्रेद्वग्निर्वावृधे स्तोमेभिर्गीर्भिः स्तोतॄणां नमस्य उक्थैः । पूर्वीॠतस्य संदृशश्चकानः सं दूतो अद्यौदुषसो विरोके ॥
The adorable Agni is magnified by the hymns, the prayers, the praises, of (his) worshippers; emulating the many glories of the sun, the messenger (of the gods) shines forth at the glimmering of the dawn.

अधा॑य्य॒ग्निर्मानु॑षीषु वि॒क्ष्व१॒॑पां गर्भो॑ मि॒त्र ऋ॒तेन॒ साध॑न् । आ ह॑र्य॒तो य॑ज॒तः सान्व॑स्था॒दभू॑दु॒ विप्रो॒ हव्यो॑ मती॒नाम् ॥ अधाय्यग्निर्मानुषीषु विक्ष्वपां गर्भो मित्र ऋतेन साधन् । आ हर्यतो यजतः सान्वस्थादभूदु विप्रो हव्यो मतीनाम् ॥
Agni, the embryo of the waters, the friend (of the pious), accomplishing (all desires) with truth, has been plural ced (by the gods) among men, the descendants of Manu; desirable and adorable, he has taken his station on high, where the wise Agni is to receive the oblations of the devout.

मि॒त्रो अ॒ग्निर्भ॑वति॒ यत्समि॑द्धो मि॒त्रो होता॒ वरु॑णो जा॒तवे॑दाः । मि॒त्रो अ॑ध्व॒र्युरि॑षि॒रो दमू॑ना मि॒त्रः सिन्धू॑नामु॒त पर्व॑तानाम् ॥ मित्रो अग्निर्भवति यत्समिद्धो मित्रो होता वरुणो जातवेदाः । मित्रो अध्वर्युरिषिरो दमूना मित्रः सिन्धूनामुत पर्वतानाम् ॥
Agni, when kindled, is Mitra; and, as Mitra, is the invoker (of the gods); Varuṇa is Jātavedas; Mitra is the ministering priest; Damunas is the agitator (Vāyu); Mitra (is the associate) of rivers and mountains.

पाति॑ प्रि॒यं रि॒पो अग्रं॑ प॒दं वेः पाति॑ य॒ह्वश्चर॑णं॒ सूर्य॑स्य । पाति॒ नाभा॑ स॒प्तशी॑र्षाणम॒ग्निः पाति॑ दे॒वाना॑मुप॒माद॑मृ॒ष्वः ॥ पाति प्रियं रिपो अग्रं पदं वेः पाति यह्वश्चरणं सूर्यस्य । पाति नाभा सप्तशीर्षाणमग्निः पाति देवानामुपमादमृष्वः ॥
The graceful (Agni) protects the primary station of the moving earth; mighty, he protects the path of the sun; he protects the seven-headed (troop of the Maruts) in the centre between heaven and earth; he protects the exhilarating (oblations) of the gods.
