Phaladeepika
स्वोच्चे स्वमीत्रे सति सौम्यवर्गे व्ययाधिपे चोर्ध्वगती ससौम्ये । विपर्ययेऽधोगतिमेव केचित्- ऊर्ध्वस्यशीर्षोदयराशिभेदात् ॥ २२॥
If the lord of the 12 th house occupy his exaltation, a friendly house or a Varga of a benefic planet or be associated with a benefic planet, the (life of the) person concerned will be going upwards to heaven. If it be otherwise, he will be going to perdition or hell. Some interpret this as a result of the the nature of the Rasi (of the 12 th house) ; i.e., heaven if a Sirshodaya one and hell if a Prishtodaya one.

svocce svamItre sati saumyavarge vyayAdhipe cordhvagatI sasaumye । viparyaye'dhogatimeva kecit- UrdhvasyazIrSodayarAzibhedAt ॥ 22॥
