शृङ्गारानुकृतिर्या तु स हास्यस्तु प्रकीर्तितः । रौद्रस्यैव च यत्कर्म स ज्ञेयः करुणो रसः ॥ ४०॥
"Imitation of Śṛṅgāra (the Erotic) is what is known as Hāsya (the Comic). The actions stemming from Raudra (the Furious) are to be understood as Karuṇa (the Pathetic) sentiment."
