इमं हि सर्ववर्णानां पश्यन्तो धर्ममुत्तमम् । यतन्ते रक्षितुं भार्यां भर्तारो दुर्बला अपि ॥ ६ ॥

He who carefully guards his wife, preserves (the purity of) his offspring, virtuous conduct, his family, himself, and his (means of acquiring) merit.

english translation

imaM hi sarvavarNAnAM pazyanto dharmamuttamam | yatante rakSituM bhAryAM bhartAro durbalA api || 6 ||

स्वां प्रसूतिं चरित्रं च कुलमात्मानमेव च । स्वं च धर्मं प्रयत्नेन जायां रक्षन् हि रक्षति ॥ ७ ॥

He who carefully guards his wife, preserves (the purity of) his offspring, virtuous conduct, his family, himself, and his (means of acquiring) merit.

svAM prasUtiM caritraM ca kulamAtmAnameva ca | svaM ca dharmaM prayatnena jAyAM rakSan hi rakSati || 7 ||

पतिर्भार्यां सम्प्रविश्य गर्भो भूत्वैह जायते । जायायास्तद् हि जायात्वं यदस्यां जायते पुनः ॥ ८ ॥

The husband, after conception by his wife, becomes an embryo and is born again of her; for that is the wifehood of a wife (gaya), that he is born (gayate) again by her.

english translation

patirbhAryAM sampravizya garbho bhUtvaiha jAyate | jAyAyAstad hi jAyAtvaM yadasyAM jAyate punaH || 8 ||

यादृशं भजते हि स्त्री सुतं सूते तथाविधम् । तस्मात् प्रजाविशुद्ध्यर्थं स्त्रियं रक्षेत् प्रयत्नतः ॥ ९ ॥

As the male is to whom a wife cleaves, even so is the son whom she brings forth; let him therefore carefully guard his wife, in order to keep his offspring pure.

english translation

yAdRzaM bhajate hi strI sutaM sUte tathAvidham | tasmAt prajAvizuddhyarthaM striyaM rakSet prayatnataH || 9 ||

न कश्चिद् योषितः शक्तः प्रसह्य परिरक्षितुम् । एतैरुपाययोगैस्तु शक्यास्ताः परिरक्षितुम् ॥ १० ॥

No man can completely guard women by force; but they can be guarded by the employment of the (following) expedients:
