नाददीत नृपः साधुर्महापातकिनो धनम् । आददानस्तु तत्लोभात् तेन दोषेण लिप्यते ॥ २४३ ॥

sanskrit

A virtuous king must not take for himself the property of a man guilty of mortal sin; but if he takes it out of greed, he is tainted by that guilt (of the offender).

english translation

nAdadIta nRpaH sAdhurmahApAtakino dhanam । AdadAnastu tatlobhAt tena doSeNa lipyate ॥ 243 ॥
