क्षेत्रजादीन् सुतानेतानेकादश यथोदितान् । पुत्रप्रतिनिधीनाहुः क्रियालोपान् मनीषिणः ॥ १८० ॥

sanskrit

These eleven, the son begotten on the wife and the rest as enumerated (above), the wise call substitutes for a son, (taken) in order (to prevent) a failure of the (funeral) ceremonies.

english translation

kSetrajAdIn sutAnetAnekAdaza yathoditAn । putrapratinidhInAhuH kriyAlopAn manISiNaH ॥ 180 ॥
