यथार्हमेतानभ्यर्च्य ब्राह्मणैः सह पार्थिवः । सान्त्वेन प्रशमय्यादौ स्वधर्मं प्रतिपादयेत् ॥ ३९१ ॥

Having shown them due honor, he should, with (the assistance of) Brahmanas, first soothe them by gentle (speech) and afterwards teach them their duty.

english translation

yathArhametAnabhyarcya brAhmaNaiH saha pArthivaH | sAntvena prazamayyAdau svadharmaM pratipAdayet || 391 ||

प्रतिवेश्यानुवेश्यौ च कल्याणे विंशतिद्विजे । अर्हावभोजयन् विप्रो दण्डमर्हति माषकम् ॥ ३९२ ॥

A Brahmana who does not invite his next neighbour and his neighbour next but one, (though) both (he) worthy (of the honour), to a festival at which twenty Brahmanas are entertained, is liable to a fine of one masha.

श्रोत्रियः श्रोत्रियं साधुं भूतिकृत्येष्वभोजयन् । तदन्नं द्विगुणं दाप्यो हिरण्यं चैव माषकम् ॥ ३९३ ॥

A Srotriya who does not entertain a virtuous Srotriya at auspicious festive rites, shall be made to pay him twice (the value of) the meal and a masha of gold (as a fine to the king).

english translation

zrotriyaH zrotriyaM sAdhuM bhUtikRtyeSvabhojayan | tadannaM dviguNaM dApyo hiraNyaM caiva mASakam || 393 ||

अन्धो जडः पीठसर्पी सप्तत्या स्थविरश्च यः । श्रोत्रियेषूपकुर्वंश्च न दाप्याः केन चित् करम् ॥ ३९४ ॥

A blind man, an idiot, (a cripple) who moves with the help of a board, a man full seventy years old, and he who confers benefits on Srotriyas, shall not be compelled by any (king) to pay a tax.

english translation

andho jaDaH pIThasarpI saptatyA sthavirazca yaH | zrotriyeSUpakurvaMzca na dApyAH kena cit karam || 394 ||

श्रोत्रियं व्याधितार्तौ च बालवृद्धावकिञ्चनम् । महाकुलीनमार्यं च राजा सम्पूजयेत् सदा ॥ ३९५ ॥

Let the king always treat kindly a Srotriya, a sick or distressed man, an infant and an aged or indigent man, a man of high birth, and an honourable man (Arya).
