प्रणष्टाधिगतं द्रव्यं तिष्ठेद् युक्तैरधिष्ठितम् । यांस्तत्र चौरान् गृह्णीयात् तान् राजैभेन घातयेत् ॥ ३४ ॥

sanskrit

Property lost and afterwards found (by the king’s servants) shall remain in the keeping of (special) officials; those whom the king may convict of stealing it, he shall cause to be slain by an elephant.

english translation

praNaSTAdhigataM dravyaM tiSThed yuktairadhiSThitam | yAMstatra caurAn gRhNIyAt tAn rAjaibhena ghAtayet || 34 ||
