Manusmriti
धनुःशतं परीहारो ग्रामस्य स्यात् समन्ततः । शम्यापातास्त्रयो वाऽपि त्रिगुणो नगरस्य तु ॥ २३७ ॥
On all sides of a village a space, one hundred dhanus or three samya-throws (in breadth), shall be reserved (for pasture), and thrice (that space) round a town.
english translation
dhanuHzataM parIhAro grAmasya syAt samantataH । zamyApAtAstrayo vA'pi triguNo nagarasya tu ॥ 237 ॥
