न तेन वृद्धो भवति येनास्य पलितं शिरः । यो वै युवाऽप्यधीयानस्तं देवाः स्थविरं विदुः ॥ १५६ ॥
A man is not therefore (considered) venerable because his head is gray; him who, though young, has learned the Veda, the gods consider to be venerable.
english translation
na tena vRddho bhavati yenAsya palitaM ziraH | yo vai yuvA'pyadhIyAnastaM devAH sthaviraM viduH || 156 ||
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा काष्ठमयो हस्ती यथा चर्ममयो मृगः । यश्च विप्रोऽनधीयानस्त्रयस्ते नाम बिभ्रति ॥ १५७ ॥
As an elephant made of wood, as an antelope made of leather, such is an unlearned Brahmana; those three have nothing but the names (of their kind).

yathA kASThamayo hastI yathA carmamayo mRgaH | yazca vipro'nadhIyAnastrayaste nAma bibhrati || 157 ||
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा षण्ढोऽफलः स्त्रीषु यथा गौर्गवि चाफला । यथा चाज्ञेऽफलं दानं तथा विप्रोऽनृचोऽफलः ॥ १५८ ॥
As a eunuch is unproductive with women, as a cow with a cow is unprolific, and as a gift made to an ignorant man yields no reward, even so is a Brahmana useless, who (does) not (know) the Rikas.

yathA SaNDho'phalaH strISu yathA gaurgavi cAphalA | yathA cAjJe'phalaM dAnaM tathA vipro'nRco'phalaH || 158 ||
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअहिंसयैव भूतानां कार्यं श्रेयोऽनुशासनम् । वाक् चैव मधुरा श्लक्ष्णा प्रयोज्या धर्ममिच्छता ॥ १५९ ॥
Created beings must be instructed in (what concerns) their welfare without giving them pain, and sweet and gentle speech must be used by (a teacher) who desires (to abide by) the sacred law.
english translation
ahiMsayaiva bhUtAnAM kAryaM zreyo'nuzAsanam | vAk caiva madhurA zlakSNA prayojyA dharmamicchatA || 159 ||
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयस्य वाङ्मनसी शुद्धे सम्यग् गुप्ते च सर्वदा । स वै सर्वमवाप्नोति वेदान्तोपगतं फलम् ॥ १६० ॥
He, forsooth, whose speech and thoughts are pure and ever perfectly guarded, gains the whole reward which is conferred by the Vedanta.

yasya vAGmanasI zuddhe samyag gupte ca sarvadA | sa vai sarvamavApnoti vedAntopagataM phalam || 160 ||
