शकुनिर बुद्धिपूर्वं हि कुन्तीपुत्रं समाह्वयत अनक्षज्ञं मताक्षः सन कषत्रवृत्ते सथितं शुचिम ॥ ५-६-६ ॥
‘Shakuni deliberately challenged Yudhishthira to a game of dice, even though Yudhishthira was unskilled and Shakuni a master of gambling!’ ॥ 5-6-6 ॥

zakunira buddhipUrvaM hi kuntIputraM samAhvayata anakSajJaM matAkSaH sana kaSatravRtte sathitaM zucima ॥ 5-6-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते तथा वञ्चयित्वा तु धर्मपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम न कस्यां चिद अवस्थायां राज्यं दास्यन्ति वै सवयम ॥ ५-६-७ ॥
‘Unpracticed in play, Yudhishthira remained guileless and steadfast in observing the rules of dharma. Having thus cheated the virtuous king, they will by no means voluntarily surrender the kingdom.’ ॥ 5-6-7 ॥

te tathA vaJcayitvA tu dharmaputraM yudhiSThirama na kasyAM cida avasthAyAM rAjyaM dAsyanti vai savayama ॥ 5-6-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभवांस तु धर्मसंयुक्तं धृतराष्ट्रं बरुवन वचः मनांसि तस्य यॊधानां धरुवम आवर्तयिष्यति ॥ ५-६-८ ॥
‘Yet, if you speak words of righteousness to Dhritarashtra, you will surely win the hearts of his warriors.’ ॥ 5-6-8 ॥

bhavAMsa tu dharmasaMyuktaM dhRtarASTraM baruvana vacaH manAMsi tasya yòdhAnAM dharuvama AvartayiSyati ॥ 5-6-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविदुरश चापि तद वाक्यं साधयिष्यति तावकम भीष्मद्रॊणकृपाणां च भेद्यं संजनयिष्यति ॥ ५-६-९ ॥
‘Vidura, too, will put your words to use and will thereby estrange the hearts of Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, and others.’ ॥ 5-6-9 ॥

viduraza cApi tada vAkyaM sAdhayiSyati tAvakama bhISmadròNakRpANAM ca bhedyaM saMjanayiSyati ॥ 5-6-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअमात्येषु च भिन्नेषु यॊधेषु विमुखेषु च पुनर एकाग्रकरणं तेषां कर्म भविष्यति ॥ ५-६-१० ॥
‘When the ministers are alienated and the warriors hesitant, it will fall upon the enemy to win back their allegiance.’ ॥ 5-6-10 ॥
