तेन संसारपदवीमवशोऽभ्येत्यनिर्वृतः। प्रासंगिकैः कर्मदोषैः सदसन्मिश्रयोनिषु॥2.11॥

Because of this attachment and doership, he helplessly reaches the state of a samsari and becomes unhappy. Due to the evil of action born of attachment, he is born in good, bad and middling wombs.

tena saMsArapadavImavazo'bhyetyanirvRtaH। prAsaMgikaiH karmadoSaiH sadasanmizrayoniSu॥2.11॥

अर्थे ह्यविद्यमानेऽपि संसृतिर्न निवर्तते। ध्यायतो विषयानस्य स्वप्नेऽनर्थागमो यथा॥2.12॥

Indeed, even though objects do not exist really, the samsara does not seem to end. Just as one who broads on objects meets with disaster alone, even in the dream.

english translation

arthe hyavidyamAne'pi saMsRtirna nivartate। dhyAyato viSayAnasya svapne'narthAgamo yathA॥2.12॥

अत एव शनैश्चित्तं प्रसक्तमसतां पथि। भक्तियोगेन तीव्रेण विरक्त्या च नयेद् वशम्॥2.13॥

Therefore, the mind which is extremely attached to wrong ways should be slowly brought under control by intense practice of devotion and dispassion.

english translation

ata eva zanaizcittaM prasaktamasatAM pathi। bhaktiyogena tIvreNa viraktyA ca nayed vazam॥2.13॥

देवहूतिरुवाच पुरुषं प्रकृतिं ब्रह्मन् न विमुञ्चति कर्हिचित्। अन्योन्यापाश्रयत्वाच्च नित्यत्वादनयोः प्रभो॥2.14॥

(Devahuti, has doubts as how can one get rid of prakriti) Devahuti said: O Lord! What if the prakriti does not leave the puruSa due to mutual interdependence and eternal coexistence?

english translation

devahUtiruvAca puruSaM prakRtiM brahman na vimuJcati karhicit। anyonyApAzrayatvAcca nityatvAdanayoH prabho॥2.14॥

यथा गन्धस्य भूमेश्च न भावो व्यतिरेकतः। अपां रसस्य च यथा तथा बुद्धेः परस्य च॥2.15॥

(DevahUti gives an example to support her point.) Just as smell cannot exist without earth, sapidity without water, in the same way there is mutual dependence and coexistence of the mind (prakriti) and the Supreme (puruSa).

yathA gandhasya bhUmezca na bhAvo vyatirekataH। apAM rasasya ca yathA tathA buddheH parasya ca॥2.15॥
