सदा निशान्धाः क्रियगोमृगेशा मध्यन्दिने कर्कटयुग्मकन्ताः । पूर्वाह्वकाले बधिरौ तुलाली धन्वी मृगाख्यश्च तथाऽपराहे ॥
Now blindness and other [defects] of the signs at particular times. Aries, Taurus and Leo (mrigesha) are always blind at night; Cancer, Gemini and Virgo (kanta, the maiden) at midday; Libra and Scorpio are deaf in the forenoon, and Sagittarius and Capricorn likewise in the afternoon.

मृगान्नश्चापघरश्च पङ्गू सन्धिद्वये नाशकरौ भवेताम् । स्यादृक्षसन्धिः कटकालिमीनभान्तं प्रगण्ढान्तमिति प्रसिद्धम् ॥
Capricorn (mriga-anana) [the text reads mrigannah] and Sagittarius (the bow-bearer) are lame; these two can cause loss at the two twilights (sandhi). The junction of nakshatras (riksha-sandhi) is at the ends of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces; it is well known as gandanta.

Now the colours of the signs. Red, fair, parrot-green, pale-rose, pale-yellow, variegated, blue, golden, tawny, spotted, brown and white are assigned, in order, to the signs from Aries (Tumbura) onward.

Now the effect of the strength and weakness of the signs. Cloth and the like; rice and chief grains; heaps of forest fruit; plantain (kandali); staple grains; bamboo (tvaksara) [the text reads svaksara]; mung and the like; sesame and cloth; sugarcane, iron and the like; weapons [the text reads shastravam]; gold and the like; water-born flowers; and all things produced in water: these goods, they say, belong to Aries and the following signs in order [how the list divides into twelve is unclear in the text], and become scarce or plentiful as those signs are weak or strong.
