वृथा वृष्टिः समुद्रेषुवृथा तृप्तस्य भोजनम्। वृथा दानं समर्थस्य वृथा दीपो दिवापि च ॥१६II

sanskrit

The rain falling on the sea is useless. After being satisfied with food, food is useless. Giving alms to a capable person is useless and lighting a lamp during the day is useless.

english translation

समुद्र में होने वाली वर्षा व्यर्थ है। भोजन से तृप्त होने के पश्च्यात अन्न व्यर्थ है। समर्थ को दान देना व्यर्थ है तथा दिन के समय जलता दीपक व्यर्थ है।
