रागतं पथि श्रान्तं वृथा च गृहमागतम् । अनर्चयित्वा यो भुङ्क्ते स वै चाण्डाल उच्यते ॥११॥

sanskrit

That householder is useless who does not show respect to a tired and weary guest who has come suddenly from a distance. A householder who eats dinner without entertaining his guests is like a Chandala.

english translation

वह गृहस्थ व्यर्थ है जो दूर से अचानक आये हुए, थके मांदे अतिथि का आदर सत्कार नहीं करता। बिना अतिथि का सत्कार किये रात्रि का भोजन करने वाला गृहस्थ चांडाल के सामान है I

पठन्ति चतुरो वेदान्धर्मशास्त्राण्यनेकशः । आत्मानं नैव जानन्ति दर्वी पाकरसं यथा ॥१२॥

sanskrit

A person has knowledge of all the four Vedas and all the religious scriptures, but if he has not realized his soul then he is like a spoon which has stirred many dishes but has not tasted any of them.

english translation

एक व्यक्ति को चारो वेद और सभी धर्मं शास्त्रों का ज्ञान है, परन्तु उसे यदि अपने आत्मा की अनुभूति नहीं हुई तो वह उसी चमचे के समान है जिसने अनेक पकवानों को हिलाया लेकिन किसी का स्वाद नहीं चखा I

धन्या द्विजमयी नौका विपरीता भवार्णवे । तरन्त्यधोगताः सर्वे उपरिष्ठाः पतन्त्यधः ॥१३॥

sanskrit

Blessed is that man who, while crossing the ocean of this world, took refuge in a true Brahmin. His shelter served as a boat. He is not like those passengers who run the risk of drowning on board an ordinary ship.

english translation

वह मनुष्य धन्य है, जिन्होंने इस संसार समुद्र को पार करते हुए एक सच्चे ब्राह्मण की शरण ली। उनकी शरणागति ने नौका का काम किया। वह उन यात्रियों की तरह नहीं हैं जिनके एक सामान्य जहाज पर सवार होने के कारण डूबने का खतरा रहता है।

अयममृतनिधानं नायकोऽप्योषधीनां अमृतमयशरीरः कान्तियुक्तोऽपि चन्द्रः । भवति विगतरश्मिर्मण्डलं प्राप्य भानोः परसदननिविष्टः को लघुत्वं न याति ॥१४॥

The moon, which is filled with nectar and is considered the deity of medicines, though it is immortal and resplendent like nectar, but loses its splendor when it goes to the house of the Sun. Will an ordinary man not become inferior by going to another's house?

english translation

चन्द्रमा जो अमृत से लबालब है और औषधियों की देवता माना जाता है, यद्यपि वह अमृत के समान अमर और दैदीप्यमान है परन्तु अपनी वैभवता खो देता है जब वह सूर्य के घर जाता है तो क्या एक सामान्य मनुष्य दूसरे के घर जाकर लघुता को नहीं प्राप्त होगा I

अलिरयं नलिनीदलमध्यगः कमलिनीमकरन्दमदालसः । विधिवशात्परदेशमुपागतः कुटजपुष्परसं बहु मन्यते ॥१५॥

sanskrit

This Bhramar, when he was among the delicate petals of the lotus, used to remain lazy by drinking the sweet honey of the lotus, but now he gets his food from the flower of an ordinary kutaja because he has come to a new country where the lotus is present. No, he only likes the pollen of Kutaj.

english translation

यह भ्रमर, जब कमल की नाजुक पंखडियो के मध्य था तब कमल के मीठे मधु का पान करके आलसी बना रहता था, परन्तु अब एक सामान्य कुटज के फूल से अपना भोजन पाता है क्योंकि वह एक ऐसे नए देश में आ गया है जहाँ कमल है ही नहीं, उसे कुटज के पराग ही अच्छे लगते है I
