अथ चार्तस्य भगवंस्तिसृणां कां चिकित्सति| अतीतां वेदनां वैद्यो वर्तमानां भविष्यतीम् ||११||

17. Out of the three types of miseries of a patient, which one is treatable by the physician – the past one, the present one or the future one? 1. The future one is in fact not in existence; 2. the past one has already ceased to exist;

भविष्यन्त्या असम्प्राप्तिरतीताया अनागमः| साम्प्रतिक्या अपि स्थानं नास्त्यर्तेः संशयो ह्यतः ||१२||

17-3. even the present one is, in a sense, momentary and so in the absence of continuity, it is non manageable to any treatment. Hence the dilemma.
