उत्तरमार्गो याम्यऽदि निगदितो मध्यमस्तु भाग्यऽद्यः । दक्षिणमार्गोआषाढाआदि कैश्चिदेवं कृता मार्गाः ॥ ९-०६ ॥

According to others the nine constellations from Bharaṇi form the northern Vīthi or path, the nine from Pūrvaphālguni form the central path and the nine from Pūrvāṣādha form the southern path.

english translation

uttaramArgo yAmya'di nigadito madhyamastu bhAgya'dyaH । dakSiNamArgoASADhAAdi kaizcidevaM kRtA mArgAH ॥ 9-06 ॥

ज्यौतिषम् आगमशास्त्रं विप्रतिपत्तौ न योग्यं अस्माकम् । स्वयं एवा विकल्पयितुं किन्तु बहूनां मतं वक्ष्ये ॥ ९-०७ ॥

If writers on Jyotiṣaśāstra should disagree it is not for me to determine the correct view; I have only to state the views here of several authors.

उत्तरवीथिषु शुक्रः सुभिक्षशिवकृद्गतो अस्तं उदयं च । मध्यासु मध्यफलदः कष्टफलो दक्षिणस्थासु ॥ ९-०८ ॥

If Venus (śukra) should either disappear or reappear in a northern Vīthi there will be prosperity and happiness in the land; if in a central Vīthi there will not be much of either; and if in a southern Vīthi mankind will be afflicted with miseries.

अत्युत्तमौत्तमोनं सममध्यन्यूनं अधमकष्टफलम् । कष्टतरं सौम्यऽद्यासु वीथिषु यथाक्रमं ब्रूयात् ॥ ९-०९ ॥

If Venus should disappear or reappear in the several Vīthis beginning from the northernmost one, the condition of the world will respectively be—1. Very excellent, 2. Excellent, 3. Good. 4. Fair, 5. Moderate, 6. Tolerable, 7. Poor, 8. Very poor, 9. Miserable.

atyuttamauttamonaM samamadhyanyUnaM adhamakaSTaphalam । kaSTataraM saumya'dyAsu vIthiSu yathAkramaM brUyAt ॥ 9-09 ॥

भरणीपूर्वं मण्डलं ऋक्षचतुष्कं सुभिक्षकरं आद्यम् । वङ्गाङ्गमहिष बाह्लिक कलिङ्गदेशेषु भयजननम् ॥ ९-१० ॥

The four constellations from Bharaṇi are known as the first maṇḍala (circle or division). If Venus should reappear in it there will be prosperity in the land; the people of Vaṅga and of Aṅga, the Mahiṣas, the Vāhlīkās and the Kaliṅgas will be afflicted with fears.

bharaNIpUrvaM maNDalaM RkSacatuSkaM subhikSakaraM Adyam । vaGgAGgamahiSa bAhlika kaliGgadezeSu bhayajananam ॥ 9-10 ॥
