प्रान्तच्छायाविनिर्मुक्ता न मनोज्ञा जलाशयाः । यस्मादतो जलप्रान्तेष्वारामान्विनिवेशयेत् ॥ ५५-०१ ॥

The sides of rivers and lakes and other water banks will not be pleasant and agreeable if devoid of shady trees. It is therefore necessary to form gardens on the banks of waters.

english translation

prAntacchAyAvinirmuktA na manojJA jalAzayAH । yasmAdato jalaprAnteSvArAmAnvinivezayet ॥ 55-01 ॥

मृद्वी भूः सर्ववृक्षाणां हिता तस्यां तिलान्वपेत् । पुष्पितांस्तांश्च मृद्नीयात् कर्मएतत्प्रथमं भुवः ॥ ५५-०२ ॥

Soft soil is congenial to the growth of all trees. Such a soil should be selected for the garden and the sesamum plant should first be grown in it. As soon as the plant begins to bear blossoms, it must be cut and removed from the spot.

mRdvI bhUH sarvavRkSANAM hitA tasyAM tilAnvapet । puSpitAMstAMzca mRdnIyAt karmaetatprathamaM bhuvaH ॥ 55-02 ॥

अरिष्टाशोकपुन्नागशिरीषाः सप्रियङ्गवः । मङ्गल्याः पूर्वं आरामे रोपणीया गृहेषु वा ॥ ५५-०३ ॥

The trees—Ariṣṭa, Aśoka, Punnāga and Śirīṣa shall be grown either in gardens or in houses by their seeds and they will conduce to prosperity.
