धिष्ण्या कृशाल्पपुच्छा धनूंषि दश दृश्यते अन्तराभ्यधिकम् । ज्वलिताङ्गारनिकाशा द्वौ हस्तौ सा प्रमाणेन ॥ ३३-०६ ॥

Vidyut is a large bent fiery substance and strikes, with a loud and fearful sound, living creatures and collection of wood.

english translation

dhiSNyA kRzAlpapucchA dhanUMSi daza dRzyate antarAbhyadhikam । jvalitAGgAranikAzA dvau hastau sA pramANena ॥ 33-06 ॥

तारा हस्तं दीर्घा शुक्ला ताम्राब्जतन्तुरूपा वा । तिर्यगधश्चऊर्ध्वं वा याति वियत्युह्यमानाइव ॥ ३३-०७ ॥

Dhiṣṇya is a blazing fiery meteoric appearance, thin and with a small tail, and visible beyond a distance of 40 cubits. Its length is two cubits.

tArA hastaM dIrghA zuklA tAmrAbjatanturUpA vA । tiryagadhazcaUrdhvaM vA yAti viyatyuhyamAnAiva ॥ 33-07 ॥

उल्का शिरसि विशाला निपतन्ती वर्धते प्रतनुपुच्छा ॥ दीर्घा च भवति पुरुषं भेदा बहवो भवत्यस्याः ॥ ३३-०८ ॥

Tārā is a meteoric substance, a cubit in length and of white or copper colour, or of the colour of the stem of the lotus; it will appear to move either horizontally or vertically downwards or upwards as if dragged by some invisible force.

ulkA zirasi vizAlA nipatantI vardhate pratanupucchA ॥ dIrghA ca bhavati puruSaM bhedA bahavo bhavatyasyAH ॥ 33-08 ॥

प्रेतप्रहरणखरकरभनक्रकपिदंष्ट्रिलाङ्गलमृगाभाः । गोधाअहिधूमरूपाः पापा या चौभयशिरस्का ॥ ३३-०९ ॥

Ulkā (meteor) is an appearance with a large head, a very small tail and of the length of a man’s body; as it falls it increases in length. This appearance is of several kinds.

ध्वजझष गिरिकरि कमलैन्दुतुरगसन्तप्तरजतहंसाभाः । श्रीवृक्ष वज्रशङ्खस्वस्तिकरूपाः शिवसुभिक्षाः ॥ ३३-१० ॥

It assumes the shape of a dead body, a weapon, an ass, a camel, a crocodile, a monkey, a tusked animal, a plough, a deer, a lizard, a snake or smoke, and it sometimes appears doubleheaded. It causes misery in the land.
