When Vata is alone (kevala—unassociated with other Doshas) and free from any obstruction or blocking factors (nirupastambha), it should be treated with oleation therapy (snehana) first. This is done by making the patient drink clarified butter (sarpi), muscle fat (vasa), bone marrow (majja), or medicated oil (taila).

Once the person is saturated or fatigued by the heavy intake of these unctuous fats, they should be comforted and reassured. Then, oleation should be maintained gently through the diet by administering milk (payas), herbal soups (yusha), or the meat soups (rasa) of domesticated (gramya), aquatic (audaka), and marshy land (anupa) animals, all processed with fats.

This internal lubrication is further supported by meals of milk pudding (payasa) and rice-lentil gruel (krishara) mixed with sour and salty tastes, along with oil enemas (anuvasana), nasal drops (navana), and nourishing therapies (tarpana). After the internal channels are thoroughly unctuous and lubricated, the patient should be well-massaged (svabhyaktam) and subjected to sudation therapy (sveda) repeatedly using techniques like Sankara Sveda (bolus fomentation) mixed with fats.
