अनात्मवा हि नीति शास्त्र द्वेषाद् अनर्थ्य संयोगाद् वा प्राप्य अपि महद् ऐश्वर्यं न भवति ॥

sanskrit

whoever, as a king, is destitute of good temper and amiable character cannot, by reason of his habitual hatred of the science of polity and an inborn proclivity to evil ways, maintain his sovereignty, though he is possessed of immense sovereign power.

english translation

anAtmavA hi nIti zAstra dveSAd anarthya saMyogAd vA prApya api mahad aizvaryaM na bhavati ॥
