विद्यानां तु यथास्वम् आचार्य प्रामाण्याद् विनयो नियमश् च ॥
Sciences shall be studied and their precepts strictly observed under the authority of specialist teachers.

वृत्त चौल कर्मा लिपिं संख्यानं च उपयुञ्जीत ॥
Having undergone the ceremony of tonsure, the student shall learn the alphabet (lipi) and arithmetic.

वृत्त उपनयनस् त्रयीम् आन्वीक्षिकीं च शिष्टेभ्यो वार्त्ताम् अध्यक्षेभ्यो दण्ड नीतिं वक्तृ प्रयोक्तृभ्यः ॥
After investiture with sacred thread, he shall study the triple Vedas, the science of Anvikshaki under teachers of acknowledged authority (sishta), the science of Vatra under government superintendents, and the science of Dandaniti under theoretical and practical politicians (vaktriprayoktribhyah).

ब्रह्मचर्यं च षोडशाद् वर्षात् ॥
He (the prince) shall observe celibacy till he becomes sixteen years old.
