नवं हि द्रव्यं येन येन अर्थ जातेन उपदिह्यते तत् तद् आचूषति ॥
just as a fresh object is stained with whatever it is brought in close association,

एवम् अयं नव बुद्धिर् यद् यद् उच्यते तत् तत् शास्त्र उपदेशम् इव अभिजानाति ॥
so a prince with fresh mind is apt to regard as scientific injunctions all that he is told of.

तस्माद् धर्म्यम् अर्थ्यं च अस्य उपदिशेन् न अधर्म्यम् अनर्थ्यं च ॥
Hence he shall be taught only of righteousness and of wealth (artha), but not of unrighteousness and of non-wealth.

सत्त्रिणस् त्व् एनं "तव स्मः" इति वदन्तः पालयेयुः ॥
Classmate spies shall be so courteous towards him as to say "thine are we."
