"वत्सेन इव हि धेनुं पितरम् अस्य सामन्तो दुह्यात् ॥
for just as a man milks a cow with the help of its calf, so the foreign king may milk (reduce) the prince's father.

तस्मान् मातृ बन्धुषु वासः श्रेयान्" इति ॥
Hence it is better to make a prince live with his maternal relations."

"ध्वज स्थानम् एतद्" इति वात व्याधिः ॥
“This,” says Vátavyádhi “is akin to the position of a flag (dhvajasthánamétat).

"तेन हि ध्वजेन अदिति कौशिकवद् अस्य मातृ बान्धवा भिक्षेरन् ॥
for as in the case of Aditi and Kausika, the prince's maternal relations may, unfurling this flag, go on begging.

Hence princes may be suffered to dissipate their lives by sensual excesses (grámyadharma).
