विपर्यये जयति, उभयथा स्थाने प्रजवे च ॥
Under the opposite conditions, one achieves victory in both circumstances, whether holding one's ground or moving rapidly.

viparyaye jayati, ubhayathA sthAne prajave ca ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमा विषमा व्यामिश्रा वा भूमिर् इति पुरस्तात् पार्श्वाभ्यां पश्चाच् च ज्ञेया ॥
The even, uneven, and complex nature of the ground in the front or on the sides or in the rear should be examined.
english translation
samA viSamA vyAmizrA vA bhUmir iti purastAt pArzvAbhyAM pazcAc ca jJeyA ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमायां दण्ड मण्डल व्यूहाः, विषमायां भोग असंहत व्यूहाः, व्यामिश्रायां विषम व्यूहाः ॥
On an even site, staff-like or circular array should be made; and on an uneven ground, arrays of compact movement or of detached bodies should be made.

samAyAM daNDa maNDala vyUhAH, viSamAyAM bhoga asaMhata vyUhAH, vyAmizrAyAM viSama vyUhAH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविशिष्ट बलं भङ्क्त्वा संधिं याचेत ॥
Having broken the whole army (of the enemy), (the invader) should seek for peace.

viziSTa balaM bhaGktvA saMdhiM yAceta ॥

if the armies are of equal strength, he should make peace when requested for it.
