चिकित्सकाः शस्त्र यन्त्र अगद स्नेह वस्त्र हस्ताः स्त्रियश् च अन्न पान रक्षिण्यः पुरुषाणाम् उद्धर्षणीयाः पृष्ठतस् तिष्ठेयुः ॥
Physicians with surgical instruments (sastra), machines, remedial oils, and cloth in their hands; and women with prepared food and beverage should stand behind, uttering encouraging words to fighting men.

अदक्षिणा मुखं पृष्ठतः सूर्यम् अनुलोम वातम् अनीकं स्व भूमौ व्यूहेत ॥
The army should be arrayed on a favourable position, facing other than the south quarter, with its back turned to the sun, and capable to rush as it stands.

पर भूमि व्यूहे च अश्वांश् चारयेयुः ॥
If the array is made on an unfavourable spot, horses should be run.

यत्र स्थानं प्रजवश् च अभूमिर् व्यूहस्य तत्र स्थितः प्रजवितश् च उभयथा जीयेत ॥
If the terrain for both holding a position and for charging is unsuitable for a military array , then whether the army remains stationary or advances rapidly, it will be defeated in either case.
