आश्रय कारी सम्पन्न घाती पार्ष्णिर् आसारो मध्यम उदासीनो वा प्रतिकर्तव्यः, संकटो मार्गः शोधयितव्यः, कोशो दण्डो मित्र अमित्र अटवी बलं विष्टि ऋतुर् वा प्रतीक्ष्याः, कृत दुर्ग कर्म निचय रक्षा क्षयः क्रीत बल निर्वेदो मित्र बल निर्वेदश् च आगमिष्यति, उपजपितारो वा न अतित्वरयन्ति, शत्रुर् अभिप्रायं वा पूरयिष्यति, इति शनैर् यायात्, विपर्यये शीघ्रम् ॥
One who provides refuge, a successful attacker from the rear, a rear-guard ally, a middle king, or a neutral king should be countered. A narrow path must be cleared. The treasury, the army, friends , enemies, forest tribes, auxiliary forces, and the season must be taken into account. If the construction of the fortress , its provisions, its defense, and its wear are accomplished, or if there arises exhaustion of the hired troops and exhaustion of the ally 's forces, or if the instigators are not acting with too much haste, or if the enemy is about to fulfill his objective—under such conditions, one should march slowly; otherwise, one should move quickly.

Azraya kArI sampanna ghAtI pArSNir AsAro madhyama udAsIno vA pratikartavyaH, saMkaTo mArgaH zodhayitavyaH, kozo daNDo mitra amitra aTavI balaM viSTi Rtur vA pratIkSyAH, kRta durga karma nicaya rakSA kSayaH krIta bala nirvedo mitra bala nirvedaz ca AgamiSyati, upajapitAro vA na atitvarayanti, zatrur abhiprAyaM vA pUrayiSyati, iti zanair yAyAt, viparyaye zIghram ॥
