विपरीतो अतिसंधत्ते ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत्र तु दण्डः प्रहितस् तं वा च अर्थम् अन्यांश् च साधयति तत्र मौल भृत श्रेणी मित्र अटवी बलानाम् अन्यतमम् उपलब्ध देश कालं दण्डं दद्यात्, अमित्र अटवी बलं वा व्यवहित देश कालम् ॥
When a king achieves this or that object with the assistance of a friend who is to receive the help of his army in return later on, then he may send out of his various kinds of army--such as hereditary army, hired army, army formed of corporations of people, his friend's army and the army composed of wild tribes--either that kind of army which has the experience of all sorts of grounds and of seasons or the army of enemies or of wild tribes, which is far removed in space and time.

yatra tu daNDaH prahitas taM vA ca artham anyAMz ca sAdhayati tatra maula bhRta zreNI mitra aTavI balAnAm anyatamam upalabdha deza kAlaM daNDaM dadyAt, amitra aTavI balaM vA vyavahita deza kAlam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयं तु मन्येत "कृत अर्थो मे दण्डं गृह्णीयाद्, अमित्र अटव्य् अभूम्य् अनृतुषु वा वासयेद्, अफलं वा कुर्याद्" इति, दण्ड व्यासङ्ग अपदेशेन न एनम् अनुगृह्णीयात् ॥
When a king thinks that, "Though successful, my ally may cause my army to move in an enemy's territory or in wild tracts, and during unfavourable seasons and thereby he may render it useless to me," then under the excuse of having to employ his army otherwise, he may help his ally in any other way.
