बलवन्तम् अन्याय वृत्तिं दुर्बलं वा न्याय वृत्तिम् इति बलवन्तम् अन्याय वृत्तिं यायात् ॥
Which enemy is to be marched against--a powerful enemy of wicked character or a powerless enemy of righteous character?
english translation
balavantam anyAya vRttiM durbalaM vA nyAya vRttim iti balavantam anyAya vRttiM yAyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबलवन्तम् अन्याय वृत्तिम् अभियुक्तं प्रकृतयो न अनुगृह्णन्ति, निष्पातयन्ति, अमित्रं वा अस्य भजन्ते ॥
The strong enemy of wicked character should be marched against, for when he is attacked, his subjects will not help him, but rather put him down or go to the side of the conqueror.
english translation
balavantam anyAya vRttim abhiyuktaM prakRtayo na anugRhNanti, niSpAtayanti, amitraM vA asya bhajante ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदुर्बलं तु न्याय वृत्तिम् अभियुक्तं प्रकृतयः परिगृह्णन्ति, अनुनिष्पतन्ति वा ॥
But when the enemy of virtuous character is attacked, his subjects will help him or die with him.
english translation
durbalaM tu nyAya vRttim abhiyuktaM prakRtayaH parigRhNanti, anuniSpatanti vA ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअवक्षेपेण हि सताम् असतां प्रग्रहेण च । अभूतानां च हिंसानाम् अधर्म्याणां प्रवर्तनैः ॥
By insulting the good and commending the wicked; by causing unnatural and unrighteous slaughter of life.
english translation
avakSepeNa hi satAm asatAM pragraheNa ca । abhUtAnAM ca hiMsAnAm adharmyANAM pravartanaiH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउचितानां चरित्राणां धर्मिष्ठानां निवर्तनैः । अधर्मस्य प्रसङ्गेन धर्मस्य अवग्रहेण च ॥
by neglecting the observance of proper and righteous customs; by doing unrighteous acts and neglecting righteous ones;
english translation
ucitAnAM caritrANAM dharmiSThAnAM nivartanaiH । adharmasya prasaGgena dharmasya avagraheNa ca ॥
