लक्ष्य लम्भ अधिकारे अपि स्थैर्य प्रतिपत्त्य् असम्मोषैः शूरः कृत अस्त्रम् अतिसंधत्ते ॥
Notwithstanding the capacity for hitting objects aright, a brave prince excels a trained prince in determination and firm adherence to his policy.
english translation
lakSya lambha adhikAre api sthairya pratipatty asammoSaiH zUraH kRta astram atisaMdhatte ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबह्व् एक पुत्रयोर् बहु पुत्र एकं दत्त्वा शेष प्रतिष्टब्धः संधिम् अतिक्रामति, न इतरः ॥
With regard to a king having many sons and another an only son, the former, giving one of his sons as a hostage and being contented with the rest, is able to break the peace but not the latter.
english translation
bahv eka putrayor bahu putra ekaM dattvA zeSa pratiSTabdhaH saMdhim atikrAmati, na itaraH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुत्र सर्व स्व दाने संधिश् चेत् पुत्र फलतो विशेषः ॥
When peace is made by handing over the whole lot of sons, advantage is to be sought in capacity to beget additional sons.
english translation
putra sarva sva dAne saMdhiz cet putra phalato vizeSaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसम फलयोः शक्त प्रजननतो विशेषः ॥
capacity to beget additional sons being common, he who can beget able sons will have more advantages than another king (who is not so fortunate).
english translation
sama phalayoH zakta prajananato vizeSaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशक्त प्रजननयोर् अप्य् उपस्थित प्रजननतो विशेषः ॥
capacity to beget able sons being common, he by whom the birth of a son is early expected will have more advantages than another (who is not so fortunate).
english translation
