मित्र अभियोगी हि सुखेन अवाप्त सिद्धिः पार्ष्णि ग्राहम् उच्छिन्द्यात् ॥
for one who has attacked a friend will, after easily making peace with the friend, proceed against the rear-enemy.
english translation
mitra abhiyogI hi sukhena avApta siddhiH pArSNi grAham ucchindyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुकरो हि मित्रेण संधिर् न अमित्रेण ॥
for it is easier to make peace with a friend than with an enemy.

sukaro hi mitreNa saMdhir na amitreNa ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमित्रम् अमित्रं च उद्धरतोर् यो अमित्र उद्धारिणः पार्ष्णिं गृह्णाति सो अतिसंधत्ते ॥
When there are two kings, one engaged in destroying a friend, and another an enemy, he who attacks the rear of the former gains more advantages.
english translation
mitram amitraM ca uddharator yo amitra uddhAriNaH pArSNiM gRhNAti so atisaMdhatte ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवृद्ध मित्रो ह्य् अमित्र उद्धारी पार्ष्णि ग्राहम् उच्छिन्द्यात्, न इतरः स्व पक्ष उपघाती ॥
for one who is engaged in destroying an enemy will have the support of his friends and will thereby put down the rear-enemy, but not the former who is engaged in destroying his own side.
english translation
vRddha mitro hy amitra uddhArI pArSNi grAham ucchindyAt, na itaraH sva pakSa upaghAtI ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयोर् अलब्ध लाभ अपगमने यस्य अमित्रो महतो लाभाद् वियुक्तः क्षय व्यय अधिको वा स पार्ष्णि ग्राहो अतिसंधत्ते ॥
When the conqueror and his enemy in their attack against the rear of an enemy mean to enforce the payment of what is not due to them, he whose enemy has lost considerable profits and has sustained a great loss of men and money gains more advantages.

tayor alabdha lAbha apagamane yasya amitro mahato lAbhAd viyuktaH kSaya vyaya adhiko vA sa pArSNi grAho atisaMdhatte ॥
